Tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore

Club pays its respects to Captain Sir Tom Moore ahead of Everton fixture.

Leeds United Football Club paid tribute to Captain Sir Tom Moore ahead of the recent fixture against Everton on Wednesday evening.

Captain Sir Tom was born in Keighley and was a proud Yorkshireman and along with the rest of the nation the club was deeply saddened to learn of his passing earlier in the week at the incredible age of 100.

As a Captain in the armed forces and a veteran of the Second World War he had already achieved so much, however that was not enough for him.

During the past 12 months the whole world has experienced suffering unlike many of us have ever known with our NHS stretched beyond belief due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And in a time when we needed a hero, Captain Sir Tom Moore stepped up for service once again, raising over £30m to support the NHS and the fight against coronavirus – he inspired us all at a time when we needed inspiration.

The Leeds United first-team players wore black armbands during the game to honour Captain Sir Tom, with a minute of applause held before kick-off to celebrate his life with a montage of images from Leeds United supporters and local members of the armed forces saluting the fantastic man he was.

We all salute you, Captain Sir Tom Moore of Yorkshire, may you Rest in Peace.
