Adam Forshaw joins the Foundation for special video call

Participants come face to face with Leeds United midfielder.

Leeds United star Adam Forshaw was the special guest on a video zoom call earlier this week with a group of participants from one of the Leeds United Foundation programmes.

As part of the health and wellbeing pillar of the club's official charity, weekly sessions, currently hosted online due to COVID19, are held with a group of participants that are taking part in a 12-week programme based around maintaining good mental health and a healthy lifestyle.

This week the group welcomed the Whites midfielder to their virtual session for an exclusive Q and A to get an insight into life as a professional footballer, learning about the diet that members of the first-team follow to help with weight management, how he keeps himself motivated day to day and how he deals with difficult situations and tougher days when he's not feeling his best.

Speaking to the group, the 29-year-old said: "I think just living with the mentality that tomorrow is a new day always helps me if I’ve had a rough day, I’ve listened to a lot and read a lot quotes recently and you just can’t dwell on the past.

“There are so many more minutes and seconds in a day and unfortunately bad things and bad days can happen but it’s how you perceive those things and how you deal with them. You’ve got to always try and look forward and put negative feelings behind you.”

Beth Kerrigan, Health and Wellbeing Officer at the Leeds United Foundation, added: "Having Adam on the call with us today was brilliant, I've already received some great feedback from the participants who loved hearing from him and I know it will help to motivate them and inspire them to push themselves further and keep going.

"One of our participants from the first cohort lost a staggering five stone over the 12-week programme so if you are willing to put in the work you really will reap the rewards."

The initiative started earlier this year and coaches from the Foundation are currently working with the second cohort of participants which is a mixture of both female and male supporters, aged 30 and over.

The programme is all about supporting small lifestyle changes that will help to get people in the local community that are struggling with motivation and keeping themselves both physically and mentally healthy, on the right track.

Sessions are held weekly and last for two hours, involving discussions around your diet, weight management, how to stick to healthy eating habits and looking at your intake of alcohol as well as looking at your mental health and speaking about how to stay motivated and to not beat yourself up if you have a bad day. The sessions also involve a physical element, encouraging the participants to take part in regular exercise that will help them to improve their quality of life.
