Disability team win Community Engagement Award

Foundation succeeds at Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards.

The Leeds United Foundation scooped first place in the Community Engagement category at the recent Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards.

The virtual awards ceremony, streamed through YouTube, took place on Friday evening with the club’s official charity nominated alongside other finalists NYL Community Sports and Streetbikes.

After receiving eight votes the Leeds United Foundation’s Disability project, Every Player Counts, came out on top and Disability Officer Anthony Hall was on hand to accept the award, which is a huge achievement for the charity.

Anthony Hall spoke about the win after the virtual ceremony and said: “It is such an honour to win the Community Engagement Award for the amazing work we are doing in the local community. I am extremely proud to oversee the delivery of the Every Player Counts project, providing opportunities for people with disabilities, whether it is young kids, teenagers or adults.

“Massive thanks go to all of the staff that work on the programme, to those that nominated and voted for us and a big thank you also to those that support our work including players from the first-team squad who have spent time with our participants and visited some of the projects, such as Pablo Hernandez, Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts.

“To win an award in the same year that the club won promotion back to the Premier League, makes it even more special for us.”
