Deliveroo Serving Free Hot Meals To Leeds Charity St George\'s Crypt

Deliveroo supporting homeless and vulnerable people in Leeds.

Yesterday, the UK’s leading food-delivery company delivered free hot meals to vulnerable groups through Leeds homeless charity St George’s Crypt. This comes as part of a Deliveroo’s pledge to make 500,000 free meals available to both vulnerable groups and frontline NHS workers across the UK.

Using their Deliveroo for Business catering service, the company delivered 30 Pizza Hut pizzas to 90 people in three sites across Leeds including St George's Crypt, Regent Lodge and Growing Rooms last night.

Deliveroo has been working with restaurant partners across the UK to secure donations of free food and will make these available to NHS staff and vulnerable groups. Deliveroo has so far received pledges of 350,000 free meals. These donations to Deliveroo have been led generously by Pizza Hut, who will include not just pizza but side salads, pasta and other options for NHS workers and vulnerable groups near their UK Huts.

Other meal donations include substantial offers from German Doner Kebab, Itsu, Lewis Hamilton’s plant-based Neat Burger restaurant and others. Pizza Hut has also donated funding to help cover the cost of deliveries.

Deliveroo will be fundraising to support this campaign, raising funds from corporate and individual donations. Deliveroo will be enabling customers to contribute through the app, so they can send the UK’s more vulnerable, and NHS workers a meal.

Andrew Omond, head of marketing and PR, said:  at St George’s Crypt said, “We are supporting 50 of the most vulnerable people in the city across three sites and they will really welcome such a lovely treat.

"These times are extremely challenging for us all, and this is all the more for those who have lived in extreme isolation, with very low self-esteem and self-worth; kindness like this really boosts spirits and reminds people that they are special, that they are wanted, that they are also important."

Paul Bell, Executive Director at Leeds United said, “Leeds United are proud to be partnered with Deliveroo, initiatives such this and their efforts to provide food for the NHS staff & other key workers during the COVID-19 crisis is inspiring. There is no doubt that the residents of St George’s Crypt are amongst the most vulnerable in the country and are in desperate need of food - by providing these pizzas Deliveroo are easing the burden placed on the staff at St George’s Crypt and making sure the people who need it most are fed.”
