Leeds United donate food packages to Holbeck Together

Club make delivery of food to be distributed to vulnerable people in the local community.

Leeds United have made a donation of fresh food to local charity Holbeck Together this  afternoon to help support some of the most vulnerable people in our community at this daunting time.

During the coronavirus pandemic there has been a huge increase in the amount of people who require extra support for food and essential items and therefore Chief Executive Angus Kinnear along with Rob Smyth, General Manager at Elland Road, paid a visit to Holbeck Together on Wednesday to deliver packages of food from the stadium.

Included in the packages, that will be distributed to those in the local area that are at a high risk and most vulnerable, are a variety of pies, meat, vegetables, desserts and a number of other provisions.

Holbeck Together was established as a Neighbourhood Network Scheme in 1992 to support older people living in the local community with the charity having recently expanded their network to provide a variety of services, activities and opportunities for people from all generations.

Rob Smyth, General Manager at Leeds United Football Club, said: “To see what some people, not just in our local community but across the world are going through at this time is devastating and of course as a club we will try to help those that we can.

“We have taken some food packages to Holbeck Together this afternoon and to know that this food will help to support people that are really struggling at the moment is really important, we will continue to support them where possible during this difficult period.”

Elissa Newman, Chief Officer at Holbeck Together, added: “We can’t thank Angus Kinnear and the whole team at Leeds United enough for responding so quickly to our appeal for assistance in these unprecedented times.

“It makes a tremendous difference to have the support of Leeds United Football Club and it’s heartening to see their very real commitment to supporting the local South Leeds communities.

“Leeds United has literally emptied their food stocks to enable us to continue to deliver hot, nutritious meals, shopping and other vital supplies to those who can't make it out themselves, and it's been a real team effort with an outpouring of support.  A huge thank you!”
