Foundation host girls football tournament

Winning team to take part in the regional finals at a later date.

The Leeds United Foundation played host to over 50 Under-11 girls football teams as part of the Primary Stars Cup competition recently, with Bankside Primary School coming out on top and heading to the regional finals.

The regional finals were set to take place later this week on Wednesday 25th March at The John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield but will now be rearranged for a future date during the coronavirus pandemic.

The knock-out style tournament was held across a number of days at a number of venues with schools and teams from across the city taking part. Bankside Primary School came out as champions for the first stage of the competition and if they are successful during the regional finals they will then have the chance to represent Leeds United at the national finals.

To acknowledge the achievements of the team so far, coaches from the Girls Academy within the club’s official charity paid a visit to the school to meet with the team and congratulate them. Due to how well the young team played during the tournament and how well the individuals showcased themselves throughout, the Foundation will be working with the teachers to set up a new SSE Wildcats Centre that will be located at the school, with football sessions then being delivered once a week for young females who want to play and develop their football skills in the local area.
