Mateusz Klich supports Polish school project

Leeds United star attends assembly at Morley High School for Project Polish.

Mateusz Klich was the guest of honour at a special assembly at Morley High School recently as part of a school assignment with students in Year 8 called Project Polish.

The Polish international was invited to learn more about the UK-wide project which has been set up to encourage children to get to know more about Poland and Polish people in the UK, introducing the topic of Polish history into British schools.

On arrival the midfielder was introduced to the students with a number of them then sharing stories about their research projects, explaining what they had learned and what they had based their assignments on, with a number of the youngsters basing theirs around the Leeds United star himself.

Klich then took part in a Q and A session, with the pupils asking questions about where he grew up in Poland, moving to the UK, his career in football and all about Leeds United. The player then took part in a PE session with students on the football team before posing for photos and signing autographs.

Project Polish is now being delivered in 65 different schools and is being supported by the British Embassy in Warsaw, the Polish Embassy in London, the Polish Cultural Institute, the Polish Saturday Schools, the British Council and all five Integration towns. All schools that complete the third of three tasks as part of the project will be invited to a reception at the Polish Embassy on 5th February 2020.

Today there are over a million residents in the UK who were born in Poland, and many more that have Polish ancestry. Polish is the most widely spoken non-native language in England and Wales and the aim of the project, with freely available school materials, is to create greater community cohesion with this group.

Before leaving the appearance the school handed over a book full of the students favourite moments from their Polish Project as Mateusz gave them a signed Leeds United shirt in return.
