Help us find a live kidney donor for brave youngster

Sarah Emmott and family to be special guests at Elland Road on Boxing Day.

Leeds United will welcome very special guests Sarah Emmott and her family back to Elland Road on Boxing Day for the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Preston North End.

The club has joined the appeal to try and help the Emmott family find a kidney donor to help save the life of this very brave youngster who has battled illnesses and health complications throughout her entire life.

Sarah is just six-years-old and has a rare genetic kidney disease called Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome – she now needs a kidney transplant from a live donor to survive.

Sarah has spent much of her short life in and out of hospital, being heavily supported with multiple medications and many hospital interventions to keep her alive and now a kidney transplant is the only option.

Andy and Ellie Emmott, Sarah’s parents, have both been tested along with other family members and unfortunately none are a tissue match for Sarah meaning they are now relying on the kindness and selflessness of a stranger to come forward and be tested, hoping that they may be a perfect match and may be able to save their beautiful daughter and keep her smiling.

For over three years Sarah has had to be fed intravenously after battling with fungal sepsis peritonitis in her abdomen and liver. The doctors have now said that once her kidneys totally fail she would need to be put onto dialysis but due to her unfortunate health complications she wouldn’t cope very well or be able to manage for long on just dialysis. It is also unlikely that a suitable deceased kidney would come in time for Sarah or be a good enough match to last for her – this is why her best survival chances is a live kidney donor.

Anyone who is willing to be tested as a kidney donor can find out more information by emailing   leedskidneyappeal@nhs.net and referencing Sarah’s name. You will automatically receive a reply email with further information on becoming a live donor along with a health questionnaire to complete.
