Over 10,000 meals provided to families across Leeds

Leeds United Foodbank success for 2018/19 campaign

Throughout the 2018/19 campaign Leeds United have shown their support to the Leeds Fans Foodbank initiative which has been in action at Elland Road for a total of 16 matches.

The project was launched in October 2018 by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust with the full-backing of the club to support two local foodbanks.

Last year alone the two foodbanks provided food for 18,563 people – consisting of 11,662 adults and 6,901 children across the city. On the back of this, a target was set to collect over 10,000 meals for families in need during the season.

The club is pleased to announce that this target has been reached with Leeds United supporters helping to provide over 10,250 meals to families across Leeds since its launch. In addition there has been £7,282 raised through the bucket collections and online donations – all thanks to the generosity of our incredible fanbase.

As well as the matchday donations, which have been made via the collection point located outside the East Stand at Elland Road ahead of the home matches, the Leeds United first-team players made a large donation ahead of Christmas and the Trust also teamed up with the ‘Reds Football Tour’ on Good Friday, a charitable campaign with money raised donated to the Leeds United Foodbank initiative and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.

A member of the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust commented: “At the start of this initiative we set ourselves the challenging target to collect over 10,000 meals. With the usage of foodbanks across Leeds on the increase, they have to give out more than they are actually receiving, so all of the donations we have made as a group of fans has made a massive difference.

"We'd like to say a massive thank you to our amazing fans for being united together in helping others in their time of need."

Tricia Ryder, Distribution Centre Manager at the Leeds North and West Foodbank, added: "Across both the Leeds Foodbanks, we’d like to thank the support given by Leeds United and their fans which really is making a big difference to the people in our community."

The Leeds United Foodbank will also be in action ahead of the game against Derby County on Wednesday 15th May and will be back again for the 2019/20 season collecting throughout the club’s centenary year. Thank you for your continued support.
