Foundation holds rail safety assembly

Coaches from the Foundation deliver special Network Rail Assembly.

The Leeds United Foundation continued its support for promoting rail safety messaging amongst youngsters recently with a special assembly delivered in association with Network Rail.

Coaches from the club’s official charity were on hand at Hawksworth Wood Primary School to deliver an exclusive Network Rail Assembly, speaking to year 5 and 6 students about the importance of rail safety and the dangers of playing and trespassing on the railway.

The EFL Trust has developed a partnership with Network Rail over the last few years to encourage clubs to use the power of their badge to work with community safety managers from Network Rail to boost awareness of railway safety in local communities.

A number of clubs have supported the initiative by delivering a series of sports and educational activities in fun and engaging ways to divert young people away from the dangers of playing on or near railway tracks.

Gary Waddington, Development Manager at the Leeds United Foundation, said: “We have been a massive advocate for promoting rail safety amongst young people in Leeds as we know how serious the dangers can be at railway stations.

“Keeping young people safe and healthy is so important and if we can use the Leeds United badge and name to help engage and educate children and teach them valuable lessons, like rail safety, then that’s brilliant and we will continue to do so.”
