CEREBRAL PALSY TEAM ENJOY NIGHT AT ELLAND ROAD

Foundation host disabled youngsters for special experience at West Brom fixture.

At the Sky Bet Championship fixture against West Brom on Saturday afternoon, disability coaches from the club's official charity helped to facilitate a special day out for the junior cerebral palsy football team they work with as part of Level Playing Field’s Weeks of Action initiative.

The group of 10 children had been invited to attend by none other than Whites midfielder Pablo Hernandez and as part of their visit they had an exclusive meet and greet with the first-team squad, waved Leeds United flags pitchside ahead of kick-off and one of the lucky youngsters, who was celebrating his eighth birthday on Saturday, even walked out with Hernandez onto the hallowed turf.

The annual Weeks of Action initiative for the national charity, now in its 14th year, aims to promote the work football clubs are doing across the country to improve access and inclusion for disabled sports fans in their community.

Whether it is work done at Elland Road to make the stadium more accessible or the work done every day by the Leeds United Foundation, it is all about giving opportunities to people who suffer with a disability, ensuring they can enjoy playing or watching the sport they love.

The cerebral palsy football team are just one of the many disabled groups the club work with, others include; wheelchair users, amputees, people with autism or a vision impairment and older participants suffering with early-onset dementia, amongst others. The coaches that work with these groups enable them to not only gain access to play football but to also socialise and develop other life skills.
