DUO SUPPORT HOMELESS DINNER

Phillips and Roberts help to serve Christmas Dinner at Life Church.

Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts helped to spread festive cheer at a Christmas dinner for homeless people in Leeds city centre recently.

The Leeds United duo were on hand at Life Church on Kirkstall Road to assist with serving a special festive lunch being organised by Streetwise, a local charity that work to provide on-going support for adults who are homeless, living in poverty or who simply need a sense of belonging and friendship.

The first-team stars helped with dishing out the food and clearing the plates whilst also spending time chatting to some of the people in attendance, having photos and even pulling a few crackers with them.

Whites forward Tyler Roberts spoke to LUTV during the visit and said: “We’ve really enjoyed coming down and meeting some of the people here, there’s been a nice atmosphere and it’s good to see everyone in positive spirits.

“If it wasn’t for the community in Leeds this club wouldn’t be as big as it is, it really does humble you doing things like this and what the charity has done here is amazing for these people.”

Alison Beckwith, Streetwise Leader, spoke to LUTV on behalf of the charity and thanked the club for the support: “It’s so great that Leeds United have come down to support us, when we heard about it we couldn’t believe it, it really is an amazing charity they’re helping.

“We always get a lot of people at the Christmas event – we do a lovely Christmas dinner and there are presents for everyone, the atmosphere is great. There are lots of people in Leeds that unfortunately do need this drop-in facility and we feel really blessed to be able to help them, this event is always a highlight for me personally.”
