PHILLIPS SUPPORTS GIRLS FOOTBALL

First-teamer attends Premier League Girls session.

Kalvin Phillips was on-hand at a Premier League Girls session earlier in the week to find out more about the work the Leeds United Foundation do with females and football.

The Leeds United star spent time chatting to the young females taking part in the session, answering their football-related questions and finding out about the Premier League Girls programme which began back in 2013.

Speaking at the event, the midfielder said: “It’s really nice to come and see first-hand some of the work our Foundation are doing in the local community.

“It’s great to see how much as a club we are doing to promote girls football and helping to develop their skills to hopefully help them get to the top level.”

Premier League Girls is delivered in partnership with The Football Association and aims to provide opportunities for females aged 11 and over to take part in the sport in a local community setting.

For participants who want to progress in the game the Leeds United Foundation have several pathways to provide long term participation opportunities, including the Wildcats sessions and the Regional Talent Centre.

The programme has two main objectives:

  • To increase the number of women and girls playing football on a regular basis
  • To increase the opportunities for women and girls to develop skills and confidence and progress within the pathway as a player, coach or official

The Leeds United Foundation achieves this by providing a fun and informal environment, encouraging young females to improve their fitness and confidence and allowing participants to progress at their own pace and make friends at the same time.
