PONTUS VISITS SKILLS CENTRE

First-team star lends support to Foundation programme.

Pontus Jansson attended a Skills Centre delivered by the Leeds United Foundation recently to learn more about the work they do helping to develop young aspiring footballers.

The programme has been rebranded in the last month with four different centres now available every week for youngsters across various venues in Yorkshire.

The Leeds United defender spent time at the West Riding County FA centre in Woodlesford, meeting some of the children in attendance to answer some questions and see first-hand how the sessions are delivered by the Foundation coaches.

Speaking at the event the Sweden international said: “It’s been great being asked to come tonight, whenever I am asked to do things like this with the community the answer is always yes.

“It is good to see so many kids here, enjoying themselves and learning new skills, they love football just like me and they had some great questions to ask me too so I’ve really enjoyed coming along.”

The Skills Centre programme is suitable for all ages but is especially beneficial for players aged 5-12 years. The centres focus on individual skills and there are four main areas for development, including; ball control, movement, passing and receiving and attacking and defending.

All of the coaches delivering the sessions are FA qualified and DBS checked and they encourage the youngsters to learn new skills, be creative, improve their confidence, work hard, respect each other and most importantly have fun.

Every player that takes part in the programme is given a Leeds United Skills Centre booklet which is packed with information about the course and includes a certificate tracking page which will help participants progress from bronze level through to gold level.

There are four different centres available to attend, as follows:

Monday, 6-7pm – Outwood Academy (WF1 2PF)

Tuesday, 5-6pm – West Riding County FA (LS26 8NX)

Wednesday, 5-6pm – Grammar School of Leeds (LS17 8GS)

Thursday, 5-6pm – West Riding County FA (LS26 8NX)
