SPECIAL VISIT FOR YOUNG FEMALES

England women's coach delivers inspiring talk to Foundation participants.

The Leeds United Foundation recently received a special visit from a national specialist coach for England women’s Under-18s team.

Emma Coates used to play for Leeds United Ladies after coming through the Girls Centre of Excellence programme and also worked for the Leeds United Foundation supporting the Girls Regional Talent Centre project.

Ahead of her role within The FA’s women’s performance team Coates managed the Leeds United Ladies Reserves team and was then appointed manager at WSL side Doncaster Belles.

Emma gave an inspiring talk to over 30 girls during her trip from the charity’s Female Mentoring Programme, which is a partnership between Leeds United Foundation and the West Riding County FA. She spoke to them about her career and journey and the challenges she has found along the way but how she persevered and got to where she is today.

The purpose of the Female Mentoring Programme is to increase the opportunities for females aged 14 and over who are interested in some of the following areas;

-       Coaching Qualifications

-       Refereeing

-       Sports Science

-       Medical Support

-       Sport Psychology

-       Employability in football – off the pitch

The course has a programmed structure which includes; monthly events and workshops - just like the one with Emma, networking events, employment pathways, volunteering opportunities, individual feedback sessions and help with funding for qualifications.
