TRIO OF STARS HELP YOUNG LEADERS

Players link-up with the Leeds United Foundation at local school.

A trio of Leeds United stars recently paid a visit to St Mary’s Primary School in Boston Spa to take part in a Young Leaders session with the club’s official charity.

Youngsters Jamie Shackleton and Jack Clarke were joined by Leeds United Ladies forward Liuli Dyson at the school based close to the Leeds United training ground in Wetherby, where they linked-up with Leeds United Foundation coaches as they delivered an after-school session with a group of Year 6 students.

The three players were introduced to the group on arrival at the school and took part in a Q and A with the pupils before joining them outside for activities working on teamwork and leadership.

Whites’ midfielder Shackleton spoke to LUTV during the visit and said: “I’ve really enjoyed coming along to see what work the Foundation have been doing with these kids. All of the students are clearly switched on as to what they’re learning about and they seem to have really enjoyed the games and activities they were doing. It’s been a really good day along with Jack and Liuli.”

The Leeds United Foundation have been delivering a Sports Leadership programme at this school and a number of others around Leeds since September and it will last for a total of 12 weeks.

The programme involves young students participating in a mixture of physical activities and theoretical tasks that will help to develop their leadership skills such as organisation, communication and teamwork as well as giving them more confidence and self-esteem as they take on the responsibility of leading their peers.
