FOUNDATION DONATE TO #TEAMSHERBURN

Charity makes donation to local school following fire damage.

The Leeds United Foundation paid a visit to Sherburn High School on Wednesday to donate football shirts and equipment to their PE department.

Earlier this month the high school based in Sherburn-in-Elmet suffered a large fire causing serious damage to their gym and PE facilities.

This has meant that the school, which has now reopened, is without a lot of their sports equipment which they use to carry out PE lessons and extra curriculum activities.

Once the Club's official charity had heard about the fire and the amount of damage that had been made they decided they wanted to help in any way they could and have donated a large number of Leeds United shirts for pupils to play sports in, some footballs and other equipment.

The Development Manager at the Leeds United Foundation, Gary Waddington, said: "It was devastating to hear about the fire at a local school and once we'd heard from one of the teachers of course we wanted to be able to do something to help.

"We've been welcomed with open arms today and met some of their fantastic students. Hopefully they will receive more donations from the local community to make sure the pupils aren't missing out on their PE lessons."

Sherburn High School Head Teacher, Mrs Maria Williams, spoke to LUTV and added: "A big thank you to everyone associated with Leeds United Football Club for the generous donation, we have a lot of supporters at the school and I know how much this will mean to them and they will wear the shirts with pride.

"It has been a massive shock to everyone and we are still waiting to see the full extent of the damage but in the meantime the support from people and the donations have been fantastic and as a school we really do appreciate it."

If anyone is able to donate any sports equipment to the school please contact TeamSherburn@sherburnhigh.co.uk and someone will come back to you. All donations are welcome and will be very appreciated.
