PLAYERS DONATE TO LEEDS FOOD BANK

Leeds squad helps local community.

On Tuesday, the Leeds United squad donated funds to buy long life products for the Leeds South and East Food Bank.

Defenders Luke Ayling and Matthew Pennington, midfielder Ronaldo Vieira and forward Kemar Roofe all made a special visit to the facility at Ashbrooke Business Park.

The whole squad chipped into the fund, in order to provide the Foodbank with more stock and the food donated will be divided across the city, in order to help the people who need it the most.

Leeds South and Foodbank provide three days of nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis.

They are part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.

Leeds South and East Foodbank project manager Wendy Doyle said: “I think it is fantastic that the Leeds United players want to get involved and know that we are actually here.

“I don’t think many people do realise that in this day and age that there are Foodbanks out there and within the city.

“In the last year we fed just over 9,000 people and this is going up each year, the donations that have been made by the players, will feed 22 individual people, which will give them three meals a day for three days, which is fantastic.”

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling added: “It is great that we have been able to make a difference by helping the local community.

“We had a tour of the facility at Leeds South and East Foodbank and have been told about the wonderful job they do in order to help vulnerable people.

“It was really good to meet the team and the people behind the scenes there, who are mostly there on a volunteering basis and work so hard to help people across the region.”
