Youngsters set to benefit from Foundation led qualifications..

Thanks to the hard work of the Leeds United Foundation and their Premier League KICKS programme, the Foundation has been awarded a special funding grant award to help youngsters gain qualifications.

The funding grant, awarded by Awards For All, will allow the Foundation to deliver 200 sports leader qualifications across the city. The extra-curricular leadership project across Leeds for 200 young people.

 The project, which will be split into two age groups, will consist of multi-sports activities including football, netball, table tennis and boxing as a tool to provide leadership training and skills. The tutorial sessions will be delivered by fully qualified coaches and will mentor students on the programme.

One programme will be tailored to those aged 14 -16 and will help 100 learners understand the basic concepts of leadership and event organisation. The second programme will introduce young people aged 16-18 who are eager to pursue a career or education in leisure management.

On completion of of the course - the young people will be nominated as ‘Peer Mentors’ (14-16 year olds) and ‘Community Ambassadors’ (16-18 year olds), roles that will get the the opportunity to continue their development in similar community programmes organised by the Leeds United Foundation and by our partners including the club, the Premier League and the Leeds City Council.  

Michael Kinsey, Premier League Programme Manager at the Leeds United Foundation, said: “Using the pull of the Leeds United and Premier League KICKS brand, we hope to increase and enhance the opportunities available to young people within Leeds.

“One of our charitable objectives is to develop the skills and capabilities of young people to give them better chances to participate in society. We already have our first courses set up, with delivery starting this month.

“Speaking to the young people who are attending, they were particularly motivated by the prospect of enhancing their CVs, gaining recognised qualifications and volunteering as Leeds United Foundation Community Ambassadors."
