ALMOST 1000 SCHOOL PUPILS BENEFIT FROM FOUNDATION PROGRAMME

Leeds primary schools enjoy Primary Stars programme..

After working with almost 1000 primary school pupils across the city, the Leeds United Foundation are celebrating a successful year of the national Premier League project, ‘Primary Stars’.

Ran by the club’s Foundation and in conjunction with the Premier League Primary Stars initiative, just under 1000 pupils have benefitted from top education sessions led by Leeds United Education programme.

Education sessions delivered include lessons in English, maths, PSHE and physical education and operate across Primary schools in the city.

The programme operates to provide fun and engaging education sessions by utilising the power of sport and football. The Foundation also work closely with school teachers and the curriculum to complement and support their teaching plans for the year.

Throughout 2017, the Foundation have also worked with the club to arrange visits from Leeds United players to further encourage engagement. Whites captain Liam Cooper last month visited Thorner Primary School where he took time to talk to pupils about their recent writing projects and also talked about Leeds United’s club values.

Pupils from schools including Whitkirk Primary School, Our Lady’s Catholic Primary School, St Mary’s CE Primary School, Seven Hills Primary School, Thorner Primary School, Lady Elizabeth Hastings and Park Spring Primary School have benefitted from the programme.

Mat Everett, Education Foundation coach at Leeds United, said: “The Primary Stars programme is designed to make education as engaging and creative as possible.

“The Education team at the Foundation have worked hard to engage with as many pupils and schools over the past year and we look forward to working with even more in 2018.

“We have just delivered a special project over the last few months which has seen us deliver writing sessions around poetry and has seen 100s of pupils submit football themed poems to the Premier League for a national competition.”
