Danny wins national award for his hard work on a Foundation programme..
A Leeds United student has scooped a national award for his impressive commitment to a sports programme ran by the Foundation and has been named a ‘Premier League Kicks Hero’ for his hard work.
18-year-old Danny has been awarded the prize for his ongoing support and hard work he has shown for the Premier League Kicks national youth outreach programme.
Danny has helped coach sessions with the Foundation staff and helped mentor students. He has also gained a place on the club’s Education Programme which will see him develop his practical and theoretical sports skills.
Since winning the award, Danny's story has been created into a comic illustration by renowned British Marvel Comics artist John McCrea, as part of the Premier League’s 10 year celebration of Kicks!
The Premier League Kicks programme, ran by the Foundation, is in place to create safer, stronger and more respectful communities through the development of young peoples’ potential, whilst giving young people access to facilities, coaching and mentoring.
Danny said: “I am so pleased to win the award! The programme has been a good way to develop my coaching and I've really enjoyed supporting the others with coaching the junior sessions. Before I started, I was nervous at first but I feel I have developed my confidence to communicate to people.
“The Leeds United Foundation have supported me really well since I started in November. I came to the Kicks sessions just to play football and didn't expect to be attending Elland Road every day as I'm on the BTEC Level two now until June and hope that I can progress to the BTEC Level three programme.”
Michael Kinsey, Premier League Programme Manager, added: “Everyone at the Foundation would like to congratulate Danny on his award – it’s a fantastic achievement. Danny has been a shining example of what young people of today can achieve if they are given the motivation, support and direction to succeed.
“Danny has shown real potential and is a real asset to our Premier League Kicks Programme.”
The Kicks sessions in Halton Moor, which Danny attends, has been in operation now for a year and was established from funding from the Outer South East Advisory Panel. The progress of Danny and the Halton Moor PL KICKS sessions is largely down to a multi-agency approach between the Foundation, Leeds City Council's Youth Service, Housing Leeds and West Yorkshire Police
Well done, Danny!
