WHITES FOUNDATION BID TO FIND WRITING STAR

School pupils to enter national writing competition with the club's Foundation..

Children from across Leeds are getting the chance to enter a writing competition, thanks to the help and support from the Leeds United Foundation and a national Premier League project.

The competition, ‘Writing Stars’, forms part of the Premier League Primary Stars, which operates in Primary Schools in Leeds, and will see pupils enter a poem they have written and aims to use the power of football to help inspire entrant’s writing.

Premier League Primary Stars uses football and sport to inspire children aged 5-11 to enjoy reading and writing.

Foundation staff have worked in schools Thorner Primary, Lady Elizabeth Hastings, Whitkirk Primary. Park Spring. Seven Hills and Our Lady’s to deliver sessions and are now encouraging pupils to enter the competition for a chance of winning a money can’t buy prize.

There is a chance to win both regional and national titles and winners will walk away with prizes ranging from a guest visit from an author, a premier league football kit and a chance to attend a prestigious award ceremony.

Since the Premier League Stars project started in 2016, the Foundation not only provides free curriculum-linked Key Stage 1 and 2 classroom resources for PE but also for maths, english and enterprise sessions.

The project is ran in conjunction with the Premier League and uses the power of football to connect with young people to enjoy reading, learning and gain a greater enthusiasm in education.

Mat Everett, Foundation coach at the Leeds United Foundation, said: “We have ran the project for over a year now and we have delivered sessions in various schools to help improve learning through the power of football and sport. We have been working with pupils to develop their writing skills so they are sure to produce some good poems for the competition.

The competition is a fantastic way for pupil’s to put their learning to the test. Good luck to all the entrees!”
