Foundation student up for national award..

Leeds United Foundation student Danny has been nominated as for the club’s ‘Premier League Kicks Hero’ after displaying an impressive commitment to a sports programme ran by the Foundation.

Premier League Kicks is a national youth outreach programme delivered by the Foundation with the aim to create safer, stronger and more respectful communities through the development of young peoples’ potential, whilst giving young people access to facilities, coaching and mentoring.

In its first decade, Premier League Kicks has engaged more than 180,000 young people in weekly football, sport and personal development sessions held at local community venues across the UK. 68 Premier League, English Football League and National League clubs now run the programme.

Since joining the programme, Danny has helped coach sessions with Foundation staff and delivered practical classes. He has now gained a place on the club’s Education programme which will see him develop practical skills as well as theoretical knowledge.

The Kicks sessions in Halton Moor, which Danny attends, has been in operation now for a year and was established from funding from the Outer South East Advisory Panel. The progress of Danny and the Halton Moor sessions is largely down to a multi-agency approach between the Foundation, Leeds City Council's Youth Service, Housing Leeds and West Yorkshire Police.

Danny said: “The Kicks programme has been great! I've really enjoyed supporting Rich and Loran with coaching the junior sessions. I was nervous at first but I feel I have developed my confidence to communicate to people.

“The Leeds United Foundation have supported me really well since I started in November. I came to the Kicks sessions just to play football and didn't expect to be attending Elland Road every day as I'm on the BTEC Level two now until June and hope that I can progress to the BTEC Level three programme.”

Michael Kinsey added: “Danny has been a shining example of what young people of today can achieve if they are given the motivation, support and direction to succeed.

“He has shown great dedication to overcome barriers to complete his Young Ambassador Programme and from his experiences, he has been inspired to progress into positive pathways with our Post 16 BTEC Education Programme.

“Danny has shown real potential and will be a real asset to our Premier League Kicks Programme.”

Well done, Danny!
