A budding football coach from the club’s foundation’s Education Programme has successfully landed himself a place on the club’s Foundation Degree course after successfully climbing his way up the ranks at the Foundation.

Danny Robinson, aged 19, started his journey with the club’s Education Programme during the 2014/15 academic year where he studied on the Level Two BTEC Sports Programme. After showing a huge commitment and dedication to the course, Danny went on to succeed on the Level Three BTEC Sports course for two more years.

After success on the college accredited courses Danny is set to start his Foundation Sports Degree in September. The course is based at Elland Road and focuses on practical coaching, football development and the theoretical side of sport delivery. Danny will also get the opportunity to top his Foundation Degree up with a further year of study to create a full honours degree.

After completion of the course, Danny hopes to become a full-time member of staff at the Foundation and continue his development into sports and football coaching.

The Foundation Education Programme currently has a number of young people aged between 16-19 enrolled on their programmes ranging from college level courses through to University accredited courses, and are currently recruiting for September enrolment.

The Programme, delivered by experts in their field and FA qualified coaches, prides itself in operating a first class education curriculum to people who want to study in a sports setting. Working alongside local schools, colleges and Universities the Foundation works hard to make their students as employable as possible when they complete their course.

Danny said: “I absolutely love doing the courses through the Foundation and it’s already helped me develop my coaching and understanding of football development.

“I’ve started to coach my own Under 10s team in Tadcaster now and my confidence has come from studying on the course. I’m looking forward to learning even more on the Foundation Degree.”

Nigel Thewlis, Head of Education for the club’s Foundation, said: “Students like Danny are a credit to not only our Education programme but to the club. He represents everything that we want our students to possess – he is hard working, committed and has showed a real development in his learning since joinng us at 16 in 2014.

“We look forward to welcoming Danny back to the programme in September and wish him all the luck to complete his degree course as well as possible. Well done, Danny!”
