600 UP FOR PADDY?

600 UP FOR PADDY?

Goalkeeper set to clock up milestone...

United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny could be set to make his 600th professional career appearance against Chesterfield on Wednesday evening.

The former Bury, Sheffield United and QPR shot stopper made his 599th appearance on Saturday in United’s 2-1 win against Brighton.

“I heard that so hopefully if I do play on Wednesday night it will be a great achievement,” said Paddy.

“To look back over the last 13 or 14 years I don’t think I’d have believed you if you’d have said I’d play that many games.

“Hopefully I can build on it and keep going past 600.”

Paddy was an ever-present in the Championship last term and only missed the Capital One Cup and FA Cup matches, with Jamie Ashdown stepping in.

The goalkeeper is happy with a rotation system but should he be called upon for Wednesday's Capital One Cup clash he is more than happy to put on the jersey.

“I didn’t mind the rotation. Jamie played in the cups last season and did really well,” he said. “Sometimes it’s nice to have a little bit of the pressure off you when you turn up for a game.

“If the manager wants me to play every game then that is what I’ll do, I’m available for every game.”

Having played a key role in United’s opening day victory Paddy is keen to keep the momentum going, starting with Chesterfield on Wednesday evening.

“With the win on Saturday it is momentum, all the lads will want to play on Wednesday,” said the goalkeeper.

“If we can take that into Wednesday’s game and we can win, the confidence will be high for the game at the weekend.

“It’s a big game for them but equally it’s a big game for us as well. After winning Saturday we want to go on and continue winning games.”
