Academy Players Set To Feature on International Stage

Gyabi, Joseph, Gray, Crew and Mahady set for youth tournaments

After helping Leeds United's U21s to promotion on Monday night, Mateo Joseph and Darko Gyabi flew out to Argentina after being named in England's U20s World Cup squad.

Head coach Ian Foster has picked a 21-man squad for the trip to South America, where the Young Lions will take on Tunisia, Uruguay and Iraq in their group stage games.

Joseph has been in electric form this season, ending it as the PL2 Division 2's joint-top goalscorer, having scored 16 goals in 21 games.

Gyabi made 19 appearances for the U21s as they won promotion, whilst the midfielder also made his Premier League debut this season against Man City.

The Young Lions will be based in the capital of Buenos Aires for their group stage games, which will all be played at the La Plata Stadium.

They kick-off on Monday 22nd May when they take on Tunisia (7pm BST), before facing Uruguay on Thursday 25 May (7pm BST).

The final group match with Iraq takes place on Sunday 28 May (7pm BST), with the top two nations from the group progressing into the round of 16 knockout stage.

Archie Gray

England U17s head coach Ryan Garry has also named Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray in his squad for the upcoming U17 EURO Finals in Hungary this week.

The Young Lions will kick-off their campaign against Croatia on Thursday evening (7pm BST). From there, they take on the Netherlands on Sunday 21 May (7pm BST) before their final group match against Switzerland on Wednesday 24 May (2pm BST).

In a campaign blighted by injury, Archie made 10 appearances for the U21s but featured in the side's last five, scoring a stunning solo goal against Middlesbrough and playing every minute of the PL2 Playoffs.

Charlie Crew

Having been called up to Wales' U17 Euro Finals squad, Charlie Crew captained the side during their 3-0 loss to Hungary on Wednesday, playing all 90 minutes.

Craig Knight's side will face the Republic of Ireland next on Saturday 20th May (3:30pm BST), before concluding their group fixtures by taking on Poland on Tuesday 23rd May (7pm BST).

Crew made 21 appearances across both the U21 and U18 squads this season, the defensive midfielder scored the winner in the 2-1 win over Liverpool's U18s in August.

Rory Mahady

U18s goalkeeper Rory Mahady joined up with Scotland's U17s this week, as they compete in the U17 Euro Finals this month.

Scotland started their campaign with a 3-1 defeat to one of the tournament's favourites France, but the keeper managed to keep the score down, saving two penalties.

After facing France, Scotland take on Portugal this Saturday, before their group matches conclude with a match against Germany on Tuesday 23rd May.

Mahady joined the club from Celtic towards the end of 2022, making 10 appearances for the U18s, playing over 1,000 minutes for Leeds United.
