U23s Preview: Leeds United vs Manchester City

Premier League 2 action at Elland Road!

Andy Taylor’s Leeds United Under-23s side are taking on table-toppers Manchester City Under-23s on Friday night (7pm).

Thousands of fans will be attendance at Elland Road, with strong tickets sales already progressing over the 18,000 figure, for the final home match of the Premier League 2 Division One campaign.

The Whites go into the match looking to make it five wins on the bounce at home. Impressive recent victories at Elland Road against Liverpool, Manchester United and Crystal Palace came after an important 2-0 win over Derby County in York.

Friday’s visitors City have the best away record in the division, having only lost three times on their travels from 12 outings up to now. Brian Barry-Murphy’s side only need to secure one more point in their final two matches to win the PL2 title.

When the two teams met at the Academy Stadium in Manchester back in November, Sam Greenwood scored twice for Leeds. A last-minute Cole Palmer goal won the points for the home side that day, in a game that was a close encounter throughout.

Currently in 12th position, Leeds remain in an intense battle down the bottom end of the table as the season approaches its conclusion. With Derby County already relegated, the fight to avoid the final spot in the bottom two is between the Whites, Chelsea, Everton and Blackburn.

Should Taylor’s side take all three points on Friday night against the table-toppers, they could move above Blackburn into 10th place and more importantly, seven clear of 13th placed Chelsea.

City are coming to Elland Road looking to claim the points themselves. They have been in a battle of their own at the top of the league this season and have had to fight hard to see off the challenge of West Ham United, but the job isn’t complete yet, with one point needed to guarantee the title.

Fans wishing to attend can still do so, with ticket details further down the page! With over 18,000 already coming, you can still add to that number and support the young Whites in their final home match of the campaign.
