U23s Preview: Leeds United vs Chelsea

U23s Preview: Leeds United vs Chelsea

PL2 action on Friday afternoon.

Mark Jackson’s Under 23s side take on Chelsea at Thorp Arch on Friday afternoon, as they return to Premier League 2 Division One action after the international break (13:00).

A number of players from both sides were away representing their respective countries at various levels over the last week and they will now return to their teams, if selected.

Leeds did however play a Premier League Cup game during that time, with a young looking side claiming three points in a 2-1 victory against Mansfield Town, on Monday night.

Both teams come into the match searching to get back into some form in the league, having had a tough run of results lately. Jackson’s side have no wins in their last five games, whereas Chelsea have just the one in that time.

With just two wins from their 12 matches, Under 23s Coach Andy Myers will be aiming to secure the first win of the season away from home for his side on Friday, having managed just two points on their travels up to now.

The Whites are still aiming for an elusive first home win of the campaign. Jackson’s side have the second best away record in the league, but are yet to win at home, with three draws and two losses from their five matches.

The goals for Chelsea have come from Harvey Vale and Bryan Fiabema, who have four each. For Leeds, Joe Gelhardt has been top of the charts all season with six, but Sam Greenwood is close to catching his teammate as he has five to his name in the league.

Kick-off at Thorp Arch is at 1pm on Friday, and the match will be streamed on LUTV for subscribers to view. Alternatively, as always there will be full coverage on our live blog right here on leedsunited.com

What has Mark Jackson said, ahead of the game?

"They have a world-renowned academy down at Chelsea, with a long history of producing top players. We know they have a lot of players out on loan at the minute, but they still have a lot of quality within the squad too. We’ll be facing a very good team who will cause us problems, but we will be ready for that. We want to use Monday’s result as a platform to create some momentum."
