U23s Preview: Leeds United vs Stoke City

The U23s are back in action at Thorp Arch.

Mark Jackson’s U23s side face Stoke City at Thorp Arch on Monday afternoon (1pm).

Fresh from a convincing 4-1 victory away at Burnley, the Whites had an impressive start to 2021 and remain top of their Premier League 2 division, with 25 points from their opening 12 matches.

Visiting side Stoke City are currently 7th in the division, with five wins, six losses and no draws from their 11 matches played so far. Last time out, Kevin Russell’s side played out an entertaining 4-3 victory over West Bromwich Albion, a match they went 4-0 ahead in but were nearly caught.

The Potters haven’t played since 21st December 2020 and do have games in hand on their divisional rivals, so will be looking to move back up the table.

Both teams have players in this match that netted a hat-trick on their previous appearances in PL2. Crysencio Summerville was unplayable last week against Burnley and got a deserved hat-trick for the Whites. For Stoke, Ethan Varian is the player to keep an eye on if involved, following his match-ball winning performance against WBA.

Victory for Leeds would see them extend the six point gap over Wolves at the top, whereas Stoke could potentially move into 3rd place with a win at Thorp Arch.
