Leeds United’s Under-23s scored a stoppage time equaliser against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough, keeping up the sides unbeaten run in the Professional Development League, which stretches back to October.

New signing Jean Kevin-Augustin made his first Leeds United start in the fixture, but it was the Owls who had the first chance of the game when Preslav Borukov broke through on goal, but he was denied by a really good stop by Illan Meslier, before the Whites stopper tipped over a follow up effort.

Manuel Hidalgo forced Meslier into a decent save from distance, before Borukov fired over when well placed.

Augustin saw a penalty appeal turned away, with the referee awarding a Leeds corner and Pascal Struijk went close, heading over.

Jack Jenkins was next to go close, he saw a long range strike go just wide of Joe Wildsmith’s goal.

At the other end, Conor Grant tried an attempt from 25 yards, seeing his effort go into the side netting.

Augustin almost broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, he latched onto a long ball, before firing a strike across goal, but Wildsmith made a brilliant save to deny him.

Two minutes later, Liam McCarron struck on goal and his strike deflected off Owls defender Josh Dawodu and onto the crossbar.

Hidalgo saw a free kick saved by Meslier and Wildsmith denied Hosannh’s cross which headed towards goal, as the two sides went in level.

Carlos Corberan introduced three new faces at the break, with Gaetano Berardi, Jamie Shackleton and Ian Poveda all taking to the field.

Niall Huggins almost gave Leeds the lead five minutes into the second period.  His shot got through Owls stopper Wildsmith, but Declan Thompson was on the line to clear.

Hosannah almost caught out Wildsmith at his near post with a low strike, but the goalkeeper made the save, before Borukov forced Meslier into action with an effort from 25 yards.

Berardi was next to go close for Leeds, he met a cross in the Sheffield Wednesday box, firing a volley just over.

It was the hosts, though, who took the lead in the 60th minute.  Meslier kept out a Hidalgo free kick, but he could do nothing about the follow up from Ciaran Brennan.

Leeds drew level 12 minutes later.  After winning a free kick on the left flank, Niall Huggins’ delivery went right through the Sheffield Wednesday box and into the back of the net.

However, it took the Owls less than two minutes to regain their lead, after breaking forward, Liam Shaw fired beyond Meslier with a powerful strike.

Leeds refused to be beaten though and pressure finally told in the 93rd minute when Hosannah’s low cross was turned in by Shaw, to ensure the Whites came away from Hillsborough with a point.
