Mateusz Bogusz netted a free kick six minutes into added time to secure Leeds United’s Under-23s all three points in the first match of the Professional Development League season against Millwall.

Leeds got the game underway and quickly had their first chance of the encounter as Jack Clarke got to the byline and teed up Robbie Gotts who fired just over.

After a quiet first 30 minutes Jordan Stevens  had a good chance to take the lead, but his header was just off target, after some good work from Ezgjan Alioksi.

Jamie Shackleton then fired in a powerful shot from just outside the area which forced Ryan Sandford into a wonderful save to keep the scores level.

Leeds opened the scoring five minutes before the break, Alioski beat his man and cut the ball back to Pascal Strujik who fired home powerfully.

Half time: Leeds United 1-0 Millwall

At the half time Carlos Corberan made three changes with Eddie Nketiah, Mateusz Bogusz and Gaetano Berardi replacing Shackleton, Alioski and Helder Costa.

After a quick counter-attack and fantastic build-up play between Clarke and Stevens, Nketiah put Leeds 2-0 up with a close range tap-in.

In the 72nd minute, Bryce Hosannah travelled the length of the pitch before slotting Nketiah through, but this time his effort narrowly missed the target.

Against the run of play, Millwall received a penalty following a late tackle from Hosannah. Meslier tipped the penalty onto the post but the rebound went straight back to the penalty taker George Alexander who tapped home to make it 2-1 and give Millwall a lifeline.

With 10 minutes to go, Billy Mitchell equalised for the Lions after his strike from the edge of the box was out of reach for Meslier and nestled into the bottom corner.

There was late drama though, in the sixth minute of added time Leeds won a free kick on the edge of the Millwall penalty area and Bogusz stepped up, with his deflected strike finding the net to give Leeds all three points with the last kick of the game.
