Striker reflects on a fantastic season for the U23s

Leeds United U23s striker Ryan Edmondson spoke to LUTV following Monday's penalty shootout win over Birmingham, which saw the Whites crowned 2018/19 PDL-National champions.

After playing a full 120 minutes, Edmondson was one of four players to convert their penalties in front of over 7,500 fans at Elland Road, and described the mood amongst the team after the win.

"I think it's great, especially for the lads. Individually we've all put a shift in this season, so for it to finally pay off and get rewarded is just an incredible feeling for the boys."

"The lads really do thrive off a crowd coming down, and it's good for us to get that support, to be recognised, as we've put so much effort in to be where we are this season."

"Birmingham are a tough team, they're very solid defensively, and played the same all the way out, sitting in a block. They were very hard to break down, but I think we were patient, tried to move it around quick, and coped with it well."

With Leeds winning 4-2 on penalties, Edmondson spoke about the importance goalkeeper Kamil Miazek plays in training and on the pitch; as well as the resolution of the penalty takers.

"Kamil's a nightmare in training, the amount of times he's annoyed me with his saves, but it's paid off for us all."

"For the penalty takers, it's good for us to step up, be brave, and put our name down to take one. Then if it goes in, it goes in."

After a season which saw them win the Northern and National leagues, and reach the semi-final of the Premier League Cup, Edmondson reflected on his own season, and the U23s working alongside the first-team over the next month.

"I'll criticise myself as my aim was 20 goals this season, but 19 goals in 21 games isn't a bad conversion rate. There's some performances where I could've improved massively, but that's just my own critique on myself, I think we can all strive to improve, and we can all get that little bit better."

"There's not much of a break, as we're still training with the first team until the end of the play-offs. Hopefully some of the lads can step up and help out. I was on the bench against Ipswich, which was a big step up for me, but a lot of us are involved."
