Barnsley 3 (Adeboyejo 29, 90, Wolfe 33) Leeds United 1 (Shackleton 55)
Leeds United suffered defeat on the road at Barnsley, with Tykes striker Victor Adeboyejo netting a brace at Oakwell Training Ground.
After an even opening period, with both teams battling in midfield, the home side had the first chance of the game in the 24th minute when Matthew Wolfe broke into the Leeds box, but his effort was blocked by Romario Vieira.
Tom Pearce had United’s first chance soon after, he struck from long range, forcing Barnsley stopper Jake Greatorex into action.
The hosts took the lead from a set-piece, Sam Tingle delivered into the box and the ball was headed across goal by Will Smith, before Adeboyejo poked home past Harrison Male.
It took Barnsley less than four minutes to double their lead, Adeboyejo stole possession, before breaking through one-on-one with Male, before unselfishly squaring to the supporting Wolfe, who slotted home into the empty net.
The Tykes could have netted a third on the stroke of half time, Louis Wardle broke after winning possession from Oliver Sarkic, he played in Wolfe who was denied by Male, before Hugo Diaz cleared off the line.
Half Time: Barnsley 2-0 Leeds United
Leeds started the second half brightly and Tom Pearce almost pulled a goal back for Leeds with a 30 yard free-kick, which went just inches wide.
Jack Clarke then tried his luck from the edge of the box with a low effort, forcing Greatorex into a brilliant stop.
Leeds’ pressure eventually told ten minutes into the second half, Sarkic did really well, before playing the ball to Jamie Shackleton who found the net from close range.
United then went close from a set-piece, Pearce delivered a good free-kick from the flank, but Diaz couldn’t find the target with his header.
Balboa almost equalised for Leeds, with a curling effort from the edge of the box, but he couldn’t find the target.
Sam Dalby was then introduced for his Whites debut, after joining the club from Leyton Orient through the week.
Clarke had a great chance to level 10 minutes from time, a Diaz cross fell to him in the box, but he failed to keep his composure, blazing a half volley over the crossbar.
The hosts then sealed the win in stoppage time, when Ben Williams did really well to break into the box from the left and he found Adeboyejo who slotted home his second of the afternoon.
