Leeds travelled over the Pennines to face relegation threatened Wigan Athletic. Leeds midfielder Alex Mowatt produced a special strike to give Leeds all three points and increased his goal tally to eight. Marco Silvestri pulled off a brilliant save late on from a James McClean free kick. Leeds also had a penalty appeal turned down in the first half as Billy Sharp was brought down.

Tuesday 18 October 2016- Leeds United 1 Wigan Athletic 1

Leeds hosted Wigan Athletic looking to keep pace with the top six. Leeds got off to a flyer as Hadi Sacko crossed for top scorer Chris Wood who volleyed home after 29 minutes. Leeds dominated the game and should have added a second, however, Wigan snatched a point in added time as Shaun MacDonald volleyed home.

Sunday 7 May 2017- Wigan Athletic 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds travelled to Wigan needing a miraculous 14 goal swing to leapfrog Fulham and make it into the Play-Off spots. The game started badly for Leeds as Ryan Tunnicliffe rounded Rob Green and slotted into an empty net. Leeds then got back on level terms as Chris Wood scored his 30th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Kemar Roofe then struck the crossbar from 25 yards and Wigan hung on for a draw. Leeds finished seventh, narrowly missing out on the top six.

Saturday 4 November 2018- Wigan Athletic 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds visited the DW Stadium in November, sitting at the top of the Championship. Against the run of play, Wigan defender Reece James opened the scoring from a curling free-kick. Leeds hit back immediately after as Mateusz Klich set up Pablo Hernandez who tapped home from close range. Leeds dominated proceedings and one minute into the second half capitalised on a bad mistake from the Wigan goalkeeper, as Kemar Roofe walked it into an empty net. Leeds had chances to put the game to bed as Pablo Hernandez hit the post and Jamie Shackleton couldn’t convert the rebound. However, Leeds hung on and secured the three points.

Friday 19 April 2019- Leeds United 1 Wigan Athletic 2

Leeds hosted the Latics in a season-defining fixture as Leeds looked to cement their automatic promotion spot in the Sky Bet Championship. The Whites were given a boost early on as Cedric Kipre was shown a straight red card for a handball on the line. The consequent penalty was missed by Pablo Hernandez as he struck the post. Leeds broke the deadlock, though, as Patrick Bamford smashed home from close range. However, Gavin Massey scored a brace either side of half time to give Wigan a shock win and left Leeds relying on results elsewhere.
