Leeds United stars Joe Gelhardt and Sam Greenwood made a special appearance on a virtual call earlier this week as part of the club’s activities for Red Nose Day.

Hosted by the Leeds United Foundation, the Under-23 duo were on hand to chat with almost 100 local youngsters about their experiences and careers as footballers and joining Leeds United at the beginning of the 2020/21 season.

They were also able to discuss the topic of mental health during the online session, offering advice to those on the call around how to deal with the effects of COVID-19, facing difficult periods of time and enforcing the importance of enjoying playing football whilst they are young.

Taking part in the Zoom session were children and aspiring footballers from two of the Leeds United Foundation football programmes, including both boys and girls from the Development Centre and Shadow Squad – with many of the young people sporting a Red Nose or funky t-shirt to show their support for Comic Relief.

Comic Relief is an international charity that helps to battle the stigma around mental health, take action on domestic abuse and helps to give children a brighter future.

The annual Red Nose Day fundraising event enables funds to be provided to families who are struggling and need support. It is an event that is in everyone’s calendar and the crucial funds raised each year make a massive impact on the lives of people in the UK and worldwide.

If you would like to show your support to Comic Relief and Red Nose Day, there are plenty of ways to get involved. Whether you would like to buy a Red Nose or an exclusive Pixar t-shirt, or turn on the telly tonight to watch or record an evening of fantastic entertainment, including one-off comedy specials, live music, and money can’t buy prizes – please make a donation if you’re able to.
