Mark Jackson’s Under 23s side travel to face Derby County on Friday, at the Loughborough University Stadium.
The Leeds United first team made the same journey down the M1 in pre-season, taking on Real Betis at the University, in what was an entertaining match.
Now it’s the turn of the Under 23s to play at the venue, as they look to bounce back from Monday’s home defeat against Tottenham Hotspur, where they lost 2-4 despite a good performance.
Derby played their first game of the season at home to Brighton earlier in the month, losing 2-0 against the Seagulls following two second half goals. They were also due to play Leicester City earlier this week, but the match was postponed.
Managed by Darren Wassall, the Rams finished 6th in the table last season and were impressive, placing themselves above many top Premier League teams in the final standings.
Top scorer last year was Cameron Cresswell, who netted 11 times from 19 matches. However, he will no longer pose a threat to the Whites, having left the club at the end of the season to join IK Start in the Norwegian First Division.
Leeds have scored five goals so far this season in their two matches, which have been equally shared out amongst the squad. Crysencio Summerville, Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt, Sean McGurk and Liam McCarron have all netted once each.
Following Friday night’s fixture, the Whites will be without a game for a couple of weeks due to the international break, when they return to Thorp Arch against West Ham United.
What has Mark Jackson said ahead of the game?
“We know a little bit about them, we’ve watched their last game and a few from last season as well. I think there has probably been a few changes in their camp, with regards to their current situation going on. They’re an established club at Category One level so they will have good players and we have to be wary of them.”
