Leeds United’s Under-23s fine league form continued with an emphatic 4-1 victory over bottom club Bolton Wanderers.

The Whites made a bright start, first Theo Hudson fired over from 25 yards, whilst Liam McCarron put a dangerous low ball into the Trotters box, but Stuart McKinstry couldn’t convert.

Leeds took the lead in the 14th minute, Niall Huggins drove forwards into the Bolton box before striking at goal and his deflected effort found the back of the net.

The advantage was doubled a minute later, Hudson played McCarron into the Trotters area and he slotted past Luke Hutchinson.

Jay Fitzmartin fired wide for the visitors from range, whilst Bobby Kamwa tried his luck from 25 yards but couldn’t keep his shot down.

Oliver Casey fired with a long distance strike, before McCarron teed up McKinstry, but he saw his effort deflect wide.

On the stroke of half time Joe Bunney tried a speculative lobbed effort from just inside the Leeds half, but he couldn’t find the target with his attempt.

Carlos Corberan introduced Jordan Stevens at the break and it took him less than three minutes to extend Leeds’ lead, firing home a neat volley from a Barry Douglas corner.

Stevens then played Kamwa into the Bolton box, but he couldn’t find the target with his strike when through on goal.

Kamwa did get on the score-sheet in the 53rd minute, slotting home from close range, following some fine work by Hudson.

Harry Brockbank fired just wide for the Trotters with a free kick on the edge of the Leeds box, before the visitors were awarded a penalty when Callum King-Yarnes was felled.  From the resulting spot kick Joe White stepped up, but new Leeds stopper Elia Caprile denied him from 12 yards.

Bolton did pull a goal back in the 58th minute when King-Yarnes found the bottom corner with a neat strike from the edge of the box.

Regan Riley then tried his luck from 25 yards, but Caprile made a good stop to deny him.

In the closing stages Leeds almost added a fifth, but Hutchinson saved Stevens’ drive across goal.

The win keeps Leeds unbeaten since October, with Corberan’s side climbing to second in the table.
