Leeds United Under-21s return to Premier League Cup action this Friday as they welcome Charlton Athletic Under-21s to the LNER Community Stadium, with kick off now at 6pm.

Having won six of their previous seven matches in all competitions, Scott Gardner’s side went in to their last outing in the tournament in fine form but, despite a spirited second half display which saw goals from Rhys Chadwick and Connor Douglas, the Whites fell to a 3-2 defeat against Birmingham City U21s.

Before that, attentions had turned to National League Cup duties, where goals from Chadwick and Douglas inspired United to a 2-1 victory over Gateshead on Tyneside.

That result followed a hard-fought 1-1 draw in the opener in Friday’s reverse fixture at The Valley, as well as an impressive 3-1 triumph over Stockport County U21s.

Those four points from three matches leave United second in Group H, level on points with leaders Charlton.

After holding Leeds to a draw in their first fixture, the Addicks then recorded a 2-0 win away at Stockport courtesy of goals from Emmanuel Sol-Loza and Ibrahim Fullah.

Chris Lock’s side have enjoyed a strong start to the season in the Professional Development League South, currently topping the standings having picked up 22 points from their opening 13 fixtures.

Action from the LNER Community Stadium gets underway at 6pm.
