U21s Preview: Leeds United vs Borussia Dortmund

Young Whites take on German giants.

York LNER September

Leeds United Under-21s will be looking to make it three wins from as many games in the Premier League International Cup when they entertain Borussia Dortmund’s youth team on Tuesday evening.

The test for Scott Gardner’s side comes after two impressive victories to kick start the campaign, beginning with a dramatic last-gasp victory over Portugal’s Sporting CP thanks to Reuben Lopata-White’s injury time strike.

The Whites then followed that result with a commanding 2-0 triumph over Basque side Athletic Club, where skipper Alfie Cresswell and substitute Logan White were on target against the Bilbao outfit.

Leeds can reclaim top spot in Group D should they win their game in hand against Dortmund, whilst it will be BVB’s first taste of action in this year’s competition on what is their inaugural year competing in the tournament.

Gardner’s team go into their final outing of 2025 on the back of a scintillating 3-0 victory to round off the National League Cup campaign, beating Gateshead. An Ollie Pickles brace and back-post finish from Jacob Render sealed that win on Tyneside.

With the club’s Academy impressing at all levels, including progression in the FA Youth Cup after beating Bristol City U18s last week, the tie with the German powerhouses offers to be an exciting test for Leeds’ youthful mix of exciting talents.

The Whites will complete their Group D schedule next month as they clash with Anderlecht, looking to secure a top two finish to advance to the knockout stages.

Action from the LNER Community Stadium gets underway at 7pm.
