Marley Wilson’s double wasn’t enough as Leeds United Under-18s were beaten by Derby County Under-18s at Moor Farm on Saturday afternoon.

The opening stages of the game were very cagey, with neither team able to create any real chances. The Whites were enjoying plenty of possession but were unable to make their mark on the game.

Despite the visitors probably being the better side out of the two, Derby took the lead in the 32nd minute, with a first effort on goal in the game.

Leeds were caught in possession on half way, Harry Hawkins slipped Carlos Richards through on goal, and he finished past Darryl Ombang in the United net.

As a result of this goal, the game really sprung into life, as on the 43rd minute Marley Wilson equalised for the Whites.

Derby had a free kick in their own half, but Leeds pressed them high up the field and did well to win the ball back. Devon Brockie picked up on a loose ball and played it through to Wilson and he calmly slotted it past Josh Shattell, into the bottom corner.

The hosts then hit back instantly, as Jayden Davidson put them back in front. Davidson was first to a loose ball on the edge of the box, he unleashed a powerful strike and it curled into the top right corner, leaving Ombang with no chance.

Just a minute later Davidson would add his second of the afternoon, as he put his side 3-1 up before the break. Richards picked him out with a deep cross, he was unmarked at the back post, controlled the ball, and powerfully finished into the back of the net.

HALF TIME: Derby County 3-1 Leeds United

The second half began in a very familiar fashion to how the first half had started, with neither side creating any chances, and not threatening the opposition goal.

Just after the hour mark Leeds were enjoying some of their best possession spells of the game and started to pose a threat.

Coban Bird made a surging run from left-back, McFadden found him, and Bird’s cross-shot shaved the top of the cross bar, with Shattell left in no man’s land.

Just after the Whites were growing into the half, the hosts added the decisive blow as Lennon Wheeldon put his side 4-1 up. Richards crossed the ball to the substitute and from a few yards out, he tapped it into an empty net.

Wilson did get his second of the afternoon in the final moments of the game to add what would only be a consolation goal for the Whites.

Leeds counter attacked from a Derby corner, Wilson broke away and was through on goal, he sent the keeper the wrong way as he slotted it into the bottom right corner.

That would be the last key moment of the game as United fell to defeat at Moor Farm. This result leaves Leeds 12th in the U18 Premier League North.
