Tyler Adams visited Penny Field School earlier this week to spend time with their students and learn more about their work with the Leeds United Foundation.

The students, who age from 2 through to 19, all suffer with some form of severe or complex needs, and the Leeds United midfielder was on hand to meet with them all, take photos, and enjoy some time in the sunshine with them.

During the visit, Tyler also had a tour of some of the facilities at the school, including various classrooms, outdoor areas and the hydrotherpay pool, giving him the chance to hear more about the students individual needs and how the school support each and every child as much as they can.

The USA international spoke with LUTV after the session, and he said: “Being able to connect with these kids on a personal level is always the most important thing, and just one interaction can change a kid’s life. So having that opportunity to come here today, it’s something I’ve done in the past in the States, but now doing it as a Leeds United player is special.

“Smiles on faces, good weather - that’s an amazing thing to be able to go outside and spend some time with the kids - there is never enough time that you could spend with them to make a difference in their lives.”

Simon Wood, Health and Wellbeing Lead at the Leeds United Foundation, added: “When we are able to have player visits, especially to programmes like this one, and the players are able to see some of the work the Foundation are doing in the community it’s really great for us, but then also for the beneficiaries and participants that we work with getting the opportunity to meet with the likes of Tyler, have photos with him and Tyler to take his time to just speak with them is just brilliant, and I think friends for life have been made today.”

The club’s official charity partnered with the local school, based in Meanwood, during the 2021/22 campaign, to support them with various fundraising activities whilst also supporting with weekly interactive sessions which has enabled coaches from the Foundation to build special relationships with the Penny Field pupils.

Penny Field currently caters for up to 60 young students with a combination of physical, medical, communication and educational needs, and they all follow a bespoke curriculum, with access to specialist staff, equipment, and resources. The staff aim to provide the best possible care, support, and education for all of their children to help them meet all of their needs and ensure they gain unique experiences and can make special memories.
