The Whites take on The Lions

A look into our pre-season fixture.

Leeds United will play their first match of their pre-season against Guiseley AFC on Tuesday 27th July, 7:30pm.

A traditional clash that Whites fans will be used to attending, the club are thoroughly looking forward to attending Nethermoor Park once again.

Who is in charge of The Lions?

Marcus Bignott is the joint first team manager at the club, alongside Russ O’Neill. The duo work in tandem at the National League North side and will be looking to enjoy a successful season, after the previous two were curtailed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The pairing were both appointed in May 2018 and have many years experience within non-league football. Bignot’s playing career saw him more over 600 appearances, spending plenty of that time with Queen’s Park Rangers and Crewe Alexandra within the EFL.

He turned his hand to management in 2011 with Solihull Moors and achieved more success developing players, and winning the National League North title.

O’Neill has extensive experience from a 10-year stay at Alfreton Town, which again saw promotion gained against tough opposition.

A player to watch?

Adam Haw is a young striker looking to get regular game time in the upcoming season and impress onlookers. Haw spent a short time in the academy set-up at Thorp Arch and is passionate Leeds United fan.

The local lad from Ilkley has recently signed a contract extension with The Lions for the 2021/22 campaign and will be looking to to make an impact during pre-season.

Leeds last traveled to face Guiseley in the pre-season fo the promotion winning 2019/20 campaign. Marcelo Bielsa named a strong squad for the match and the final result was a 2-1 victory for the Whites.

Where do they play?

Guiseley AFC play at Nethermoor Park. The capacity of the stadium is 4,000, which includes covered seating with the stands, a covered terracing area and also a number of other standing areas. Three corners of the ground have turnstiles, to gain access to the ground.

The main car parking is located on Netherfield Road and two further smaller car parks can be found at the Otley Road End of the ground. The club have reminded supporters not to park on Ings Crescent, as it is a ‘No Parking Zone’ and the designated Emergency Services access point.
