Netting a sublime first goal for the club in Leeds United’s emphatic 4-0 victory over FC Augsburg was defender Tarik Muharemović, acrobatically lashing a powerful overhead kick into the back of the net as the Whites rounded off their pre-season campaign in style.

With the Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest just around the corner, goals elsewhere from Anton Stach, James Justin and Lukas Nmecha helped the Whites to the win in what was an important outing at Elland Road.

“I don’t even know!” the 6ft 4’ defender laughed, discussing the audacious effort. “I just jumped. I just tried. Thank God it went how it went! First goal at home, a special moment.

“But at the end of the day, I am really happy how we finished the pre-season. I am really happy how the whole team played and how we fought. We showed our qualities and that is how we want to start the new season.”

Since joining the club from Sassuolo, Muharemović has impressed in his first outings in white and he heaped praise on his teammates for helping him settle in so quickly.

“It feels amazing since I arrived, really,” he added. “The love I get from the guys, from the staff, from the coaches, it is really special. How they welcome you, first of all, and then how we train.

“We really work hard every day and we know what team we are going to expect. We just want to show our qualities, to show our best sides and we go on step by step and achieve our goals.

“We all know it is the best and the hardest league in the world so I am ready. I know it is going to be tough, it is going to be hard, but I am born for that. Now I just want to fight with my teammates, with the whole club, to achieve our goals.”
