Stuart Dallas has spoken exclusively to LUTV after signing a new contract to remain at Elland Road.
The Northern Ireland international has committed his future until 2024 meaning he will continue to be an integral part of the first team at Leeds United.
“I am buzzing, delighted, really happy that I have signed a new deal,” Dallas told LUTV.
“I have always said this is where I want to be, this is home for me. When I first came to the club the fans took me in as one of their own, I felt that really special connection with them and that has grown stronger in the last few years.
“Hopefully it can get even stronger as the years go on, so I’m delighted and happy to sign. My family are here, this is home for them as well, so I am over the moon.”
Dallas joined the Whites from Brentford in 2015. He looked back over the six years he has been at Elland Road and now wants to help the club progress even further.
Dallas said: “It has been a journey. I’ve said in previous interviews that when you come in you know this place is special, from the outside looking in you know how big the club is.
“But, when you’re inside it, it’s an incredible club and my six years here has been a journey with a lot of ups and downs throughout that. More ups in the last couple of years than downs.
“It’s been a rollercoaster journey and I have loved every minute of it, hopefully there is more to come. Last season was a benchmark for us and hopefully we can progress this year.”
The 30-year-old won the club’s Goal of the Season, along with being named both the Players’ Player of the Year and Player of the Year.
On achieving those awards, he explained: "It’s self belief, believing in yourself that you are good enough to play at this level and having the belief if your manager and teammates as well.
“That’s huge, it gives you confidence to perform and play at this level. I think for me the biggest thing is having self belief and confidence of the manager to put you in, in any position.
“It’s not easy, it’s difficult, but I’ve got a wiliness to learn and I want to try and improve every game. I look after myself off the pitch as well which is huge at this level, you have to maintain your fitness.”
One of the more experienced players in the side, the versatile midfielder and defender wants to make sure he can help the younger players within the squad to realise their potential at Leeds United.
“I am 30 now, but I have been about the club and I know what it means to people to represent this club. I know what it means to the fans and how much it means to them to have a team that wants to play for the club.
“I feel that there is a number of us in this group that are leaders, maybe not on the pitch the loudest, but off the pitch we can put our arm around the young players when they need it and try to give advice.
“Obviously, we can learn off them as well, they are very enthusiastic and there is a lot of talent, they keep pushing us as well.
“It’s important that us senior lads keep the group together, that’s a huge part of what we are about, we have a fantastic group of players here and everyone is really close to each other, that is what is needed to keep this club going in the right direction.”
