Leeds United are supporting the EFL’s Together Against Racism campaign over the next few weeks, starting with our Sky Bet Championship game against Sheffield United on Friday evening (18th October).
To help raise awareness around the anti-discrimination campaign, and specifically the importance of speaking out against racism and standing up for those who are discriminated against, the club have organised two special events through the Leeds United Academy and the Leeds United Foundation to help educate young people with the help of current star Largie Ramazani and club legend Lucas Radebe. More information about these events will be shared online throughout the rest of Black History Month.
At Leeds United, we believe that football is a game for everyone, everywhere, and we are proud of the welcoming atmosphere that you create at Elland Road every matchday. However, every season, we still face hundreds of reports of discrimination across the game, and likely more that go unrecorded.
Whether you are a player, manager, watching in the stands or at home – your voice matters. Our voices are a powerful tool for change and when we speak up, come together and use our voices, we can drive the change that is needed.
A man who used his voice to champion equality and inclusion in football and beyond was the founder of anti-discrimination charity Kick It Out, Lord Ouseley, who sadly passed away earlier this month. He dedicated his life to fighting racism and promoting diversity. Significant strides have been made in tackling discrimination, thanks to his work.
Racism will not be tolerated at this club, and we stand together with the aim of removing it from the game we all love. Leeds United will take swift and firm action against anyone identified in making racist or discriminatory behaviour, working with the relevant authorities to ensure perpetrators face bans and police action.
The EFL stands side by side with all clubs, players, managers and supporters, in taking a zero-tolerance approach to tackling racism in our game. If you witness racist or discriminatory abuse, you can report it directly through Kick It Out, Leeds United’s matchday reporting procedure below, or by alerting a nearby steward.
To report an incident, please text LEEDS along with any relevant information including location, name and a description of the incident to 60006.
Together with the other footballing bodies, we will continue to make football a safer, more welcoming and enjoyable space for everyone. Leeds United and all of football stands Together Against Racism and all forms of discrimination.
