Midfielder Anton Stach has been named in Germany’s squad for their upcoming international friendlies, as head coach Julian Nagelsmann continues preparations ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Germany will face Switzerland on Friday, 27 March at St Jakob Park in Basel, before hosting Ghana on Monday, 30 March at Stuttgart's MHP-Arena.
Stach, 27, earns the call-up after an impressive debut campaign with Leeds United, having joined the club from TSG Hoffenheim in July. The midfielder, born in Buchholz in der Nordheide, has made 28 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring four goals.
Among those strikes were standout free-kicks against Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, highlighting his growing influence in midfield.
Stach has previously been capped twice by Germany, most recently featuring in a 5-2 victory over Italy in 2022. He is one of six Premier League players selected, alongside Pascal Groß of Brighton & Hove Albion, Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade of Newcastle United, Kai Havertz of Arsenal, Kevin Schade of Brentford, and Florian Wirtz of Liverpool.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Daniel Farke praised Anton Stach following his Germany call-up, insisting the midfielder’s selection is fully merited.
“It’s well deserved,” Farke said. “Anton plays in the best league in the world with unbelievable consistency. His data is at a top level, and the way he has adapted to English football - more or less from the first day he arrived - has been outstanding. Anton fully deserves this call-up.
“His all-round game is very important for us. In terms of winning the ball and working against the ball, he always puts a shift in, covers lots of distance and wins many duels. He has also shown great quality with his set-pieces, delivering goals and assists.
“He has inspired our offensive game and proven that he is versatile, playing in a deeper role and even as a wide number 10. One thing I can guarantee is that Julian will get a top-class character - a player who will travel with confidence - and I hope he grabs this chance with both hands.”
