Sonny Perkins’ last-gasp winner saw Leeds United Under-21s grab a 3-2 win away at AFC Bournemouth Under-21s to progress to the Premier League Cup quarter finals.
A Luca Thomas wonderstrike brought the Whites level nine minutes before time, before Perkins latched onto a Charlie Allen through ball to fire home and win it in dramatic fashion for Scott Gardner’s side.
Speaking after the final whistle, match winner Perkins gave his thoughts exclusively to leedsunited.com.
“It was a crazy moment!" He began, describing the winning goal.
"I think we thought it was going to extra time and the chance was almost gone. So, when Charlie had the ball and I saw the gap, I had one thing in my mind and I have seen it go in the top corner. It was a great moment, especially with having some fans behind the goal so we all enjoyed it.
“Even today we had to come from behind twice, not just at the end. We went a goal down quite early in the game and probably didn’t start as well as we had planned to.
“We got back in it and then straight after half time we got set back again, so to come back and then win it so late just shows how together the group is at the minute.
“We have just said in there that we are getting better week by week and getting stronger. I think we have just got to keep looking to improve now.
“Luca’s was a lovely goal and I think he deserves it as well because he does a lot of hard work that probably goes unnoticed sometimes.
"It is frustrating not scoring, as a forward player you always want to be scoring and getting chances in front of goal, so I am pleased for him. It was a great finish!”
