Leeds United Women recorded a hard-fought 1-0 away victory at Huddersfield Town Women earlier this afternoon, as Amy Woodruff got on the scoresheet and put the Whites ahead with five minutes to play.

Collecting four wins on the bounce in all competitions, Leeds returned to FA WNL Division One North action with three points over West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield, after Woodruff’s moment of magic sealed the win.

Speaking after the game, boss Simon Wood said: “It was a really, really good, executed game plan from us.

"We knew coming in to today, it was going to be one of our toughest tests this season, so we worked hard in the week and I think you saw from the game, we executed what our plan was.

“Huddersfield are a very good footballing side, their movement is really good, and we’ve worked hard around how to cope with that - we frustrated them, 15 minutes before half time we got a few chances and we were probably unlucky not to go in ahead at half time.

“The message to the players was just keep working hard, keep following the plan, keep working hard for your teammates, believe in each other, and I think scoring a late goal in a game like this is massive because it closes a gap at the top of the league.”

On Woodruff’s performance: “We had a little conversation in the week around going forward and today’s game, and how we wanted her to be, and massive credit to her – her work rate is superb.

“She may score in the next one, and the next one, but the bit she always has is that work rate and its massive what she gives to us as a team.

“We want to win every game we play for this football club,” Simon added on next week’s FA WNL Cup clash against Hull City Ladies. “Next Sunday is about going to a good tier three side, putting in a performance that the players know when they come off the pitch that they’re worked for 90 plus minutes.

“It’s about representing the badge and making sure we’re representing Leeds United in the right way.”
