Leeds United Women were held to a 2-2 draw on Sunday afternoon in the FA WNL Cup against Norton & Stockton Ancients, following goals from Alice Hughes and Abbie Graham.

The Whites got off to a flying start, with Hughes scoring the opener just two minutes in, before Graham put Leeds ahead again following an equaliser for the hosts, but it was Norton who again scored to level the tie in the 90th minute,

Following the result, Whites boss Simon Wood said: “There will be lots we can build on in the week for the next league game, we have the bits we did well today, I thought we looked really good at times, but we weren’t where we wanted to be and where we need to be.

“From scoring that early on in the game, we want to build on that and score more goals, but as the game went on it became a little bit scrappy. We didn’t create enough opportunities in the 90 minutes to win the game, so that’s something we will build on for next week.

“We need to learn from these situations, it’s a cup competition but when it comes to league games, that’s a lesson that we have got to learn, it’s a lesson we will take forward."

On the league fixture against Wythenshawe next week: “It’s another tough one, like today, we know more about them than we did at the start of the season.

“They’ll be up for it, they’ll want to make a mark against Leeds United like most teams do, but we’ve got to make sure we’re up for the challenge.

“We’ll look for another improved performance and we’ll go and try to get the three points as always.”
