Leeds United Women kicked off their summer business with the signing of defender Shauna Legge from Halifax Women.
After captaining the Northern Premier Division club to a sixth-place finish last campaign, the Beeston-born defender is keen to take her impressive form into the upcoming season with the Whites.
After making the switch to join Simon Wood’s side, Legge told LUTV of her delight for signing for her childhood club.
“It feels really good” explained the 29-year-old. “Everyone has been really welcoming, I am enjoying the set up and how it has been going so far. I am really excited to be part of it.
“Growing up in Leeds, Elland Road is a staple point of Beeston and growing up around there means Leeds has been close to my heart since being a little girl. When Simon was interested, I was ready for a fresh start and it was the perfect opportunity.
“I am hard working, I get stuck in and I'd like to think that I have got a good understanding of the game. I am comfortable playing anywhere in a back four, mainly at centre-half, so I think I will bring some leadership qualities to the team and make an impact as much as I can.
“For the majority of my career, I have played in the third tier, so I will be trying to bring that experience to Leeds, kick on and hopefully that is where we can take the club.
“Everyone, from players to the staff, has been so welcoming and it is such a good environment to be in. The level of the players is great to be around and it is really exciting to be part of it.”
Fans may get a chance to see Shauna in action for the first time as the Whites face Doncaster Rovers Belles in the Julie Chipchase Trophy on Sunday 4th August. More information about that match can be found HERE.
The Whites kick off their FAWNL Division One North campaign with a stern test against local rivals, and one of Shauna’s previous teams, Huddersfield Town.
“You couldn't have picked a better game to get the season going,” added the defender.
“Everyone loves a local derby and with it being a former club – they have just come into the league from the tier above so they will bring quality – I know we can match that, better it and hopefully get the season started the best way we can.
“Keep your eyes on us, support us and be loud for us, and hopefully we will do the business on the pitch.”
